Project X Zone Review

Project X Zone the biggest crossover game you've ever heard of...well according to the trailer anyway. Project X Zone was developed by Monolith Soft and published by Namco Bandai for all Nintendo 3DS systems. The game originally came out in Japan in October 2012, but after constant protests and hopefuls, the game found its way to be localized and released into other markets in the summer of 2013.

pxz

The game is a tactical role-playing game crossing over series from developers at SEGA, Capcom, and Namco Bandai into one hectic universe; where villains and heroes team up. A little fact though is this isn't the first game in the 'X' series, the first game, Namco x Capcom, came out in 2005 for the PS2, although only released in Japan. People who pre-ordered the game received a special limited edition box, which came with a mini-poster, the original soundtrack, a character booklet, and of course the game. The story of Project X Zone revolves around the characters Kogoro and Mii, characters made specially for this game. While at their house, the Kouryuji Estate, a few enemies appear out of nowhere to steal the Estate's treasure: the Portalstone. Because of the disappearance of the Portal Stone: dimensions are either merging together or becoming distorted and because of this all life in every universe may cease to exist. Now, it is up to Kogoro and Mii to locate the Portalstone and stop Oros Phlox (the organization that stole the Portalstone) as well enlist help from other heroes from other times and universes to help them save all known life.

Gameplay

Although Project X Zone is a tactical-RPG, that doesn't mean it necessarily plays like one. Project X Zone uses a special engine called the Cross Active Battle System. With this system, you control your team (say Chun-Li and Morrigan) and you can perform at least 3 attacks using the A button (the minimum becomes 5 as you level up). The attacks you do depend on which direction you press when you hit A, so in turn your goal is to do multiple different attacks, so you can juggle your enemy for a higher hit combo, which in turn would lead to higher damage. In turn, it sounds like a fighting game, which it plays like, but put in a simple format, with a twist of RPG in it. As you can gain more teammates and other players called "Solo Players" (say Tron Boone) you can do 'Support Attacks', which let a team perform 'Cross Hits'. Cross Hits are an important part of Project X Zone, because it helps your Skill parameter. Each character has special Skills in the game, but every single character uses the same Skills Bar. The max a Skill Bar can go, without Cross Hits, is 100%; a Cross Hit allows it to reach a maximum of 150%. This Skills bar allows your character/team to activate skills like, to negate a boss counter, heal other allies, defend against enemy attacks, full defend, and of course counter back. Later in the game, the Skill Bar can be used for two types of specials: A multi-hit special or an in-battle special.

Non-battle gameplay is like a regular Tactical-RPG. Each area, representing an area from a character's game, takes place in grids. Each character can move a certain amount of blocks, with their attack range depending on your Unit Pair/Team (you cannot change these). Every grid has treasure chests located throughout, as well as destroyable objects to find items. Some areas won't allow you to go over unless you activate a skill to let your team "fly". A nice little bonus the game adds is it displays what units, be it enemy or friendly, are going to go in the next 5 turns, so you can plan accordingly. After each chapter you can access the "hub", where you can equip each team with new weapons or bonus items, like HP+ etc. Also, in the hub area you can change your Solo Units to fit whatever Pair Unit you think is better. The best part of putting different characters with different or similar teams is, that before each battle the characters will talk to each other, and sometimes they will say funny things they don't understand about the other character etc.

Project X Zone is a fairly long game, roughly taking 40-50 hours, to complete. The game constantly keeps every character involved and sometimes separates your teams, making the player think accordingly and balance out each team. For those who worry about the music of the game, then have no fear, the combined soundtracks of every character from these developers has their own special tunes, and all are fantastic. I would have to say though, the replay-value, of the game is a bit weak, only because of how long the game is. While there is a New Game +, after you complete the game, the New Game + is just a harder version of the regular game, nothing special.

Conclusion

Overall: 8.7/10 I had a lot of fun with Project X Zone, in fact I couldn't put it down at some points because it got so good. From listening to the awesome tunes of every character from different series, to the actually well written story (even for its huge bunch of characters), I recommend this game for any type of game player on the 3DS. The game is funny, cool, and very addicting; if you want a game that will last you and love seeing characters from franchises you know or have no idea, then Project X Zone is the way to go. (For those who want to know my Top 3 Unit Pair/Teams if they play the game it goes: 1- Mega Man X and Zero 2- Reiji and Xiaomu and 3-Jin and Xiaoyu...sorry Toma and Cyrille!)

Pros:

  • Addicting
  • Worth your money
  • Great barrage of characters

Cons:

  • Will get a bit repetitive
  • Can't play the game too loud (no dubbed voices haha)

Thanks to good ol buddy Fantaffx  (and Eli as well) I was tagged in this so I have an excuse to write things that are irrelevant! I actually have no idea how this is supposed to go, except for the fact Jose started this so I might as well take a bit out of Shawn's as well!

Name: Michael Troina

Nicknames: Troy, Mike

Age: 22

From: New York

Currently resides in: New York

Reasons behind username: Well I suck at thinking of user names and I was going to go either MikeTroy7 (nicknames plus my number for sports) and I usually like to take original names instead like Mario, Sora, Cloud etc. but obviously they weren't available. So I went with this funny and badass character a few of my anime/manga friends call me because I am always "shirtless and stripping" Gray Fullbuster!

Catch Phrases: OOOOHHHH!!! I...am a man! Come on Man!

Pet peeves: PEOPLE WHO JUST USE GIFS OR PUT THEM IN THEIR BLOG WITH NO CREDIT  Not winning, people who talk down to others especially in games, people who can't drive or signal, being bad at something and talking smack, people who have to laugh at their own jokes first to get others to laugh

Gaming:

Background: I'm the middle child of two brothers and well we're all really athletic. My father kind of put us in this always fighting, trying to be the best mode (or is it just me who feels that way?) and I've always grown up with competition. I really used to and still kind of play games to enjoy myself, down time during holidays, or to just do more things and win at more things.(if you do enough research you can find my football highlight tapes or baseball stuff)

Games are fun, plain and simple. I started playing on the NES, but I was mega-young so I really count the SNES at my Nonna's House as my first real console. It's funny my Nonna/Grandma had all the Nintendo stuff at her house (SNES, N64, etc) while at my Nana's house she had all the SEGA stuff (Genesis, Dreamcast, etc). My favorite games I remember playing on those systems are games like: Donkey Kong Country 2, Super Mario All-Stars, Super Mario World, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Mario 64, Banjo-Tooie, Ocarina of Time, etc.

I always would play with my brother(s), be it games like Mario Party, Goof Troop, or Super Bomberman; I loved to play and compete against them in anything or friends

Now I like to share my gaming skills and experiences in two areas MY TWITCH LIVESTREAM

Experience notes on the PS4, Xbox One, and the new upcoming titles launching this holiday season

$

So, this past week we all know I went to New York Comic Con 2013 and played many games that are coming out this holiday or in future release, as well as the much coveted Xbox One and PS4. If you want to read about my personal experiences you can see the links provided under the paragraph.

[For those who want to read Part 2/Sat-Sun/Gaming Tournaments of X1 and PS4]

[For those who want to read Part 1/Thurs-Fri]

Before I go on here's the TLMB Video version if you don't want to read or check out the MyIGN Podcast coming out this week!

New Consoles

I'll start with the heavy hitters since they launch pretty soon and I'm sure people want to know how they played. The PS4 is probably the best looking system out there and then the new controller, the DualShock 4, is the best next gen controller out there. I know the controller was released earlier than the console, but for those who haven't used it get ready for a smaller, more ergonomically fit controller that just feels right. The new sticks you won't feel much of a difference compared to the previous DualShocks, but the new trigger buttons are flawless and perfect for any game, especially shooters now. I did not get to use the Light-Touch or whatever it's called area, because the game I played for the PS4, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, did not require it. Graphics wise the PS4 blows you away as well as gameplay/FPS ability because the whole entire time I played (15 minutes) I've never seen a game run smoother...other than Nintendo games on Nintendo consoles.

The Xbox One is a bit of different story only because I played a fighting game along with a Fight Stick. We all know the game I played was Killer Instinct, (mentions winning and Turtle Beaches), and I have to say that the game blew past my expectations...though that will be mentioned in the paragraph below. The Xbox One looks nice I'll say in comparison to the PS4 runs just as smooth. Though Killer Instinct is a bit darker compared toe Assassin's Creed IV, I would say it definitely blows the visuals away from the Xbox 360 and is about on par with the PS4. I got to hold the new Xbox One controller, and while similar to the Xbox 360 controller; the new stick feels great, although it feels more of the same with the buttons spaced a little further.

Holiday Games

So, we all know I played tons of games of New York Comic Con and well that's because I love games. From Nintendo, to Ubisoft, to Capcom, a lot of main publishers were there showing off there stuff for the holidays; and I of course had to play most of them.

Nintendo

  • Super Mario 3D World- The first game I played when I got to NYCC 2013 and of course my most played game was that of SM3DW. The demo hosted 4-players (1 GamePad + 3 Wiimotes) and let them play random levels, be it a boss fight or beginner levels, etc. The game plays flawless, either GamePad or Wiimote (I used both), the game sounds and looks gorgeous, and its a lot of fun. Playing with three strangers and still having a lot of fun shows how good this game is.
  • Donkey Kong Country Returns: Tropical Freeze- Played this game co-op with Marc. Unfortunately, they didn't have the GamePad in use or Dixie Kong, so in turn I was just replaying Donkey Kong Country Returns in HD. I like DKC and DKCR so that's fine, the levels are a bit long, and lastly they got rid of the dumb crouch blow from DKCR.
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds- Like LTTP? Well, good news and bad news. Good news, the map really is Link to the Past, the game looks fantastic, has that classic Link to the Past feel, and of course controls perfectly. Bad news? Well, this is a bit personal but the game uses a Magic Meter for ALL ITEMS. Yes, you don't find arrows or bombs, they are used on this purple meter that automatically recharges all the time. It's a bit difficult to explain but it recharges slowly, but steady, because the meter is also used for your new 2D power. The new power is pretty important for many puzzles and is very cool.
  • Mario Party: Island Tour - Played this game on the 2DS; very fun a lot of focus on the gyroscope in the 2 minigames I played. The games are very good compared to all the crap from MP5-9. The first game I played reminded me of Platform Peril from the first games and the second game I saw many people fail at (except me of course) which was like the Dolphin Wave game from Super Mario Galaxy. Good news, all 4 3DS players can play Mario Party Island Tour with conncet play, as long as one person has the game.
  • Mario & Sonic at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games- Surprisingly fun, although I still have the first game for the Wii (which is awesome btw) I would skip out on this game. Wii Party U is a better deal with more minigames...and Wayne Brady.

Namco Bandai

  • Dragonball Z: Battle of Z- Played on the PS3. Fantastic, closer to Raging Blast type gameplay, but many new additions. In my demo, I had to go up against Android 17, 18, and 16. The game uses a new style of gameplay and has a very cool co-op type system, which is unseen from DBZ games. During my play, I selected a team of Vegeta, Trunks, and Krillin, (I was Goku) and if you don't have friends, the AI takes over for them and you can see their Ki and Health bars on the left of the screen. Starting a mission, it tells you objectives and of course its just beat up the other guy; but in certain restrictions. Cool thing that happened to me: While I was beating up Android 17, AI-Vegeta came from behind him and we did a 20-hit sync attack JUST LIKE THE TV SHOW. You can also "rally" hit the enemy, like in the show when you would watch a 3-on-1 and them just juggling the character...yeah that's possible.
  • Pacman and the Ghostly Adventures- Didn't play the 3DS version which I heard is a 2D side-scrolling platform. A big surprise, the game has smooth controls and is a true 3D-world adventure game. Reminds me of a Super Mario 64 type game, too bad its Pacman so it will probably be overlooked. Nice double jump and good camera, looks alright visual (though that doesn't matter to me).  May buy when the game is cheaper in addition has multiplayer which is unique, but quick to learn, think of like a new age Pacman except you are the ghosts. So your mission, find the Pacman spawn and kill him!
  • Announced Games that I need: One Piece Romance Dawn (3DS) though I just found out a PSP version of this game came out my birthday this year (8/8/2013). In addition, screenshots/videos of Tales of Symphonia HD was shown.

Random Games:

  • Regular Show Mordecai and Rigby in 8-bit land: Its Regular Show and I'm bias so I like it and its good. My friends didn't like it, said it was too difficult, but it is very old school and looks and sounds great. $30 game with hilarious jokes and awesomeness overall...yes please
  • Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I Said So!: This the next TLMB game *spoiler* but seems pretty cool. A unique Diablo, dungeon crawler from a top-down perspective. From what I've played there was no level up system, just a bunch of characters to choose from, who have different abilities making gameplay different if you want it to be. Although in reality everyone is equal. The game is oddly addicting and has some cool things...A CAT LAUNCHER GUN.
  • Strider 2014- Capcom announced this game and had a few demos of this going next to Phoenix Wright 5.

Top Games

Well so what should we get? I came away walking from NYCC knowing which games I need and definitely want. In reality, I want every game ever but let's just list the games I found the best to be there IN ORDER:

#5- Mario Party Island Tour (3DS)- WHAT!? Over Legend of Zelda: Link Between Worlds? For the time, yes. Mario Party IT looks fantastic, plays well and has some challenging mini-games that I saw many people fail at while I succeeded. LBW is nice, but the idea of item recharge still bothers me.

#4- The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot (PC)- I didn't mention this game before but I have to tell you how great this game is. I played it during on one of my tournaments and to describe the gameplay is: Diablo with some Tower Defense elements. In the game you choose your class and raid other castles; when you raid you go Diablo mode choosing a class, having to click and slash with the keyboard having your abiltiies and items etc (Q for potions). The Tower Defense portion is when you create your own castle, you have to make sure it is well-built with monsters and traps so you can also gain points and EXP while the other players raid your castle!

#3- Killer Instinct (Xbox One)- I played Killer Instinct back in the day on the SNES and the N64 and hated it. I thought the game was a crappy fighting game not close to Marvel vs Capcom series, or even Mortal Kombat (sorry Street Fighter not a fan). Well, maybe I have a bias since I won Turtle Beaches and had a great experience with the game but this game was fantastic. It looks great, plays easier than its SNES counterpart and of course COMBO BREAKER. Once, I get some time with this bad boy I think it'll be even more fun.

#2- Dragonball Z: Battle of Z (PS3)- The DBZ game I always dreamed of. Budokai was cool, Budokai Tenkaichi was even cooler; but this game blows them both away. The idea of co-op is more than enough to sell me on it, until you realize how fantastic the fighting system is. And fans of classic 1-v-1 multiplayer do not have to worry, since that option is also there! I want to see more of the RPG system, I want to learn how to play co-op as well as learn a new-fight system in multiple ways with ALL the characters...except Yamcha.

#1- Super Mario 3D World (Wii U)- The absolute best game at NYCC. Gorgeous gameplay, graphics, music, replay-value, and EVERYTHING [else that matters]. You can play as Mario or any of the other three not-Mario characters (jk, Luigi, Peach, Toad) and just have a blast with friends, yourself, or even total strangers.

So what games are you excited for? It better not be Link Between Worlds (cough 6.5) but other than that I hope you enjoyed seeing some previews of games!

Xbox One Impressions...not impressed with TLMB Unboxing Day One Edition

$
0
0

I don't have much to say about the Xbox One nor will I claim I was expecting of the system. I've always been a Nintendo and Sony kind of guy; yes I own a 360 but I didn't pay full price for it. In fact I've never been impressed about anything of the Microsoft console sans Halo and Cross-Party Chat.

As most of us know, the Xbox One launched this past Friday a week after the other next generation console the PS4. While considered a stronger launch lineup compared to the PS4, the initial reaction has now shown both launch titles set to be overall mediocre. At my channel LegendofMikeandBill/TLMB, Billy had reserved a Day One Edition of the Xbox One considering the 360 was his favorite console; so in turn I was all for it.

Killer Instinct had a good impression on me, although that was with the $200 fight stick and all the characters included in the version I played, so I thought the Xbox One had a little something special going for it to start (although Resogun is the counter to it which has been widely viewed as better of the "free" games that come with the system).

But, well we finally decided to open it:

Impressions

Good:

To tell you the truth my two favorite things about the Xbox One are the TV/HDMI In port idea and Kinect 2. It's funny, the two most ridiculed things about the X1 are the things I find excellent on the console. The Kinect 2 displays beautiful HD, has a very good microphone, is about 80% accurate on its voice commands, and can tell which users apart even guests. Once in a room it was Billy, his brother Chris, and I and it told them their two Xbox Live Names with me as a guest; which was pretty mindblowing. The other good is of course is Killer Instinct, but that's more a personal choice on games.

On a side note, you can actually tell a difference in graphics and framerate playing on the Xbox One compared to last generation consoles. Billy picked up Call of Duty: Ghosts with the $10 special trade in deal and I was actually able to tell which is an enemy and which isn't garbage flying in the wind in CoD; so that actually impressed me enough.

Neutral:

The snap feature/multiple application feature and controller belong here for me. I know the PS4 can do multiple apps and even download and play; but that feature is now common on almost any smartphone, making me believe it isn't too big of a deal. Yes, it's pretty cool to have TV or an internet tab open on the side of the screen, but it's too small to make a big impact in my opinion.

The controller...well....the sticks are good, the D-Pad is a vast improvement from the rock-hard thumb breaker of the original (and better than the turn-style one) and overall it feels nice. It's a bit thinner/smaller than the 360 controller, the buttons seems larger, and the triggers are more or less the same. The problems I had with the controller was:

  • It still runs on Double AA batteries and then they charge you to buy a charge pack
  • The shoulder LB & RB buttons are atrocious. I could not cook a grenade at all; the buttons are only sensitive enough at the end of each button, not the very top.
  • It's going to take sometime getting used to the Xbox Home button on the top of the controller

The microphone headset comes packaged with the system and it's a step back from the 360 one. While the volume button is much better, the design and comfort-level of the set is worse and to top that off no 3rd-party headsets until Microsoft releases a patch (projected 2014).

Only the Chief can stab solid metal with a tactical knife OK

[as per usual don't steal gifs without asking etc etc if you want just ask etc]

Bad:

Was I expecting too much? From what I've tinkered around in the OS is I got the 360 Dashboard with some Windows 8 on the side. The SkyDrive is not the easiest thing to learn right away, with Xbox One's Direct Upload server not available yet, and installing games and apps take a while. I also was a bit disappointed in the fact of no Twitch streaming yet, as well as a confusing Friends Feed (their social network). The fact you must go out of your way to check this and then to top it off it isn't simple enough to just click a few buttons to check, makes looking for friends more complicated then the 360 method: press home, go left, click friends.

What I've seen so far it seems to me that Microsoft took a if ain't broke approach.

Overall, I see the Xbox One as a fine system for the time being, even if I am not a fan of the system myself. Although I see Kinect 2 as very cool, the idea of asking Kinect to open apps for you seems more like a justifying my purchase approach, rather than a long term thing. It's still quicker and more accurate to press buttons on your controller to activate features on your Xbox One, so we will see where that plays out later in the future. Right now, my plan for the Xbox One has stayed the same wait for Halo 5.

Happy 2-Year MyIGN Anniversary Troyfullbuster

$

Wow can't believe its been two years since I joined myIGN, that's pretty long but nothing compared to most of you guys here. Well over this last past year I just got older, beat more games, and of course wrote more blogs haha. I would have to say this year was a little better in years of growing with the community, as I've met more and more cool users, gained some new followers, and of course made some true friends.

Junior Heroes!

From the reboot of the myIGN Nintendo Podcast (back from like a year ago I think but the new team is just as good and I love coming late to every Monday podcast ), to winning the myIGN Super Smash Bros Brawl 2013 tournament, and having an awesome time during the Extra Life 2013 marathon-stream; I would have to say it was really cool to experience all these things and asked to be a participant in all of them. It really meant a lot since I always felt like I was just a user on here, not that people actually knew me and it was nice to see people extend their hand out to me. I was going to mention NYCC 2013 the press experience but you guys have had enough of that haha.

Other memorable things that were done this year for myself was definitely the revitalization of my Twitch channel (Troyfullbuster), the creation of my YouTube channel : TLMB / LegendofMikeandBill, and that 24-hour charity stream to help my school. Starting with the 24 hour charity stream, wow that takes a lot of work but it will always be a memorable experience. While my school still did go under and we couldn't save it, the money went to my church which is connected to my school (St. Robert Bellarmine) and I want to thank everyone who came and the people who donated : Matt, Liam, and Ryan. One last thank you goes out to the man who helped me set up the whole thing and guided me through it...Bob aka GodofMoogles! Although he likes bad games like Okami, he helped me through a time I really needed help and I thank him for that.

TLMB Gaming / LegendofMIkeandbill as we should all know by know is my YouTube channel I started with my best friend about half-a-year-ago. The channel is more than a Let's Play Channel, it's also a channel where we do news, reviews, and unboxings; as well something special for everyone to enjoy MMGM or Mega MiniGame Mashups. Those are my personal favorites just because we have friends over and we just do crazy hectic things that are always a good laugh when you go to watch them. My favorite two videos are these Mario Party 5 ones; but I'll just post one here. Thank you everyone who watches the videos and/or is subbed when I put them here for reviews and especially Matt/Shmuga9 again for always helping out with the channel and giving an artistic point of view to only improve our channel.

[I wanted to post the TLMB Gaming trailer but have Mario Party 5 instead]

Last, but not least my Twitch channel is back in action and the funny thing is I looked at my One Year Anniversary blog and I had 40 subs and 2000 views but not I more than doubled both those things even though I stopped streaming for the longest time. I stream nearly everyday, which has taken my blog life down a bit but it's been fun. Jay/Toews1987 has been a super stud always being there and then sometimes filling in that late night spot for me when I'm not streaming and it's cool to have a friend who has the same video game taste as you and is always there to watch, even though he's studying 90% of the time haha. Shoutouts als to PandaRobot and Bria who are always there to form the stream KH team! Looks like Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD ReMix was a good thing for my channel, but if you deciding to come now just know there's only one game left in that...Reverse/Rebirth so don't miss it

To Wrap it Up

I just wanted to thank people I consider my friends on this site starting with my two best friends on the site Shmuga9/Matt and Jay/Toews1987. Thanks guys for just chatting with me in general and always reading my blogs; it means a lot. My other shoutouts go to Bob/GodofMoogles, Ant/Cocobrien, Cemish, and the lovable Ghandi, Sam31007/Sam, Sam2 lol jk/Cornsmuggler, Liam_Row Fantaffx/Shawn [a good man who hates Skyward Sword but HATES MARIO!???], fliadaloisio, Elia/Paleselan [I forgot to mention we met up at the Nintendo World store a really cool experience and one DOLLAR PIZZA!]. PoorPigg and Deraj626 don't think I forgot you two always commenting on my blogs! That means a lot!

To end it all I have to say about 3 or 4 of my blogs reached the front page this year and that was pretty awesome but my two favorite blogs of the year have to be:

  1. Worst feelings gamers can have [featured]

Best NEW game of year since other anniversary blog: Super Mario 3D World [Wii U]

Worst game: The Last of Us [PS3] Sonic Lost World Wii U Runner Up

Only one can save them.... Sonic!

I have many reviews in drafts so get ready for a bombardment of them; but let's have a wonderful next year coming up with more surprises and more friends! I want to get to 500 subs on both my YouTube and Twitch, I want to get to that 1000 followers on myIGN and of course want to be an All-Star and last but not least I just want to thank everyone on the site who gives their time out to me and each other. It's nice to have a close community with people who care for everyone and different opinions but keep it level. Thanks guys for having me!

Now I just need to go play more games and watch more anime cause I've been slacking! Happy Thanksgiving!

Troyfullbuster's Top 10 Most Anticipated 2014 Games

$
0
0

Got tagged by the good ol' Mr. ZR in this so I might as well mention my top-10 games that I...NEED for 2014 not even want but NEED.

10. DragonBall Z Battle of Z

I mentioned this game as one of my top games at NYCC 2013. All I have to say is this game is everything you wanted a DBZ game to be. It let's you play the show and somehow transforms it into a game; I can't wait to play it and get some time on it! I wonder if the co-op is also online so I can just Spirit Bomb our planet (that ironically gave me the energy for it haha).

9. Donkey Kong Country Returns: Tropical Freeze

I've always been a fan of DKC, in fact DKC 2 is one of the greatest games of all time. With the revival of the DKC series with the Wii version of DKCR (overrated in difficulty but an amazing game), the Kongs are back in a brand new platforming adventure that even brings back Dixie Kong and her glide ability...in glorious HD! The fact that they delayed this game just confirms it will be better.

8. Kirby 3DS: Triple Attack

I love Kirby, not as much as my brother, but I enjoy all his games. Kirby 64 is one of those games that are a must play along with all his GBA adventures...heck all his games are must plays. This game should make no difference in that judgment and now with his new 3DS adventure I expect him to dominate the system again like he did with the DS.

7. Tales of Symphonia HD

To tell you the truth, I'm not too impressed with Tales of Xillia and that was my first Tales of game in the series. The reason why I am excited for this game though is because I've heard from every single person I talk to, that is the absolute best one. I'm willing to give the Tales series another shot and from what I've seen this one does look pretty cool...but so did Xillia.

6. 'X'

Not much is known about this but all that I need to convince me is open-world, action-RPG, and GUNDAMS. From the mysterious release date, unknown story, and tons of other questions all I know is Xenoblade Chronicles would have been way better with a better combat system and that looks like it has already been answered.

5. Plants v. Zombies Garden Warfare

I'm really excited for this game because it looks awesome and hilarious. From it's 3rd-person shooter mechanics, to the split screen co-op, this seems like one of those games you can just pick up with a friend and just game for a few hours. I'm also excited for this game because of the completely different direction the EA team is taken with a series known as an addictive tower defense type game.

4. Persona 5 or Sunset Overdrive

Couldn't decide; Sunset Overdrive is made by Insomanic and for some crazy reason is NOT on the Playstation systems. Still the trailer looked really cool and had awesome music. Persona 5 is Persona 5 not much else needs to be said.

3. Destiny

Halo is back and not the alright 343 Halo 4 no Bungie is bringing Halo to Playstation's and making it better than ever in Destiny. I cannot wait to play this gorgeous looking game, with its online open environment, exploring the story, and just bringing that KDR up...if it matters in this game lol.

2. Mario Kart 8

Honestly, the Mario Kart 8 trailer already blew my mind. From the gravity or the insane graphics, the game has evolved into this amazing series that almost no one can ignore and for good reason. Mario Kart Wii and 7 had amazing online, I just can't wait to explore the new karts, tracks, and listen to that soundtrack!

1. Super Smash Bros Wii U/3DS

It's Super Smash Bros and guess what...it's for two systems! I don't care if they are nearly the same because both versions are just that important. I wonder if Nintendo will package both games together for a nice bundle price; but all in all....it's already the #1 game of 2014 or whenever it releases. Smash Bros has a reputation, even to non-Nintendo gamers (although they are bias, unknowledgeable jackasses) and I cannot wait to see what improvements come forth!

Ducktales Remastered Review

$

Life is like a hurricane here in Duckburg!

DuckTales, originally for the NES, which launched in 1989, has decided to comeback from out nowhere more than 20 years later, when WayForward announced they were doing a full HD-remake of the classic Capcom Disney platformer. DuckTales has always been a cult classic and one of the memorable old-school classic Capcom and Disney games that many of the older gamers grew up remembering; so it's only right to see it released so gamers of today can experience a true classic. This old-school platform not only combined everyone's favorite Disney cartoon-TV program and brought it to their hands, but was actually Capcom's best selling game on the NES and GameBoy!

DuckTales Remastered story is like that of the original, only with a bit more details (clearing up things from the NES version for those who wanted valid reasons). The player takes control as Scrooge McDuck who searches the world for five hidden treasures, in order to add onto his title of being the "richest duck in the world". Scrooge's quest begins after finding a secret message in a painting, that the Beagle Boys were trying to steal. Along with the Beagle Boys, you run into classic DuckTales villlains such as Magica de Spell and Flintheart; as well as Scrooge's friends like Launchpad. Now with a list of items and where to find, Scrooge and the boys set off to start a riveting adventure!

duck2

Gameplay

DuckTales Remastered gameplay is 2D platforming with some exploring aspects. In DuckTales you control Scrooge McDuck and use his cane for all assortments of exploration; such as attacking enemies or using it to bounce to higher places. The cane can be set for an Easy Pogo for newer players, where they only have to press one button to bounce continuously, or if you play Hard or Expert, the Hard Pogo/original way is of mandatory use; meaning you have to press down and whatever your cane button is set to, so you can use it. The exploration aspect of DuckTales comes in from the fact that this 2D platformer allows a player to go "back" in the game; meaning the area left of the player is still a reachable and not out of the game, like in Super Mario Bros or Mega Man platformers.

The main differences from the original DuckTales, besides the obvious remastered graphics and soundtrack, is the added levels. In the original DuckTales, you would travel five levels (same as DuckTales Remastered) only to return to Transylvania for the final boss fight. In the Remastered edition, you got a tutorial level in Scrooge's Money Bank and the final boss got moved to entire new level called Mount Vesuvius. In addition, to the two new levels; added story was created in-between levels to clarify things, such as Scrooge McDuck breathing in space, etc.

duck

Other added features to the game were new boss-move patterns, the expansion of levels, and of course the ability to dive into the legendary Scrooge McDuck bin! Collecting money in the game also led for the player to purchase in-game collectibles, such as artwork or even unlocking the 8-bit OST of the game. For newer players/players who play on easier settings, DuckTales Remastered also included a map, so they could locate puzzle pieces, or needed where to go next.

DuckTales Remastered boasts a beautiful soundtrack both in the remastered or the 8-bit version, so in turn the music boasts a very high score. The graphics are fantastic in every way. I honestly felt like I was playing the DuckTales cartoon, while I ran through my playthroughs in DuckTales Remastered. The game features a 2.5D presentation, with 2D hand-drawn character sprites and 3D modeled levels. Backgrounds and layouts were created by Disney Television artists Mike Peraza and Rick Evans. Finally, the replay-value of the game is moderate-high. The reason, besides trophies, is because of the four difficulty (Easy to Extreme) settings the game has and of course the ability to collect more money to buy collectibles to view.

Conclusion

Overall: 7.5/10

DuckTales Remastered is a good, albeit short game. The chance to replay this NES classic and some true 2D platforming is a pleasure, especially today and I was glad it was done. One point that bothered me was most reviewers complained about the game being hard, or how come on Expert mode you could not save your progress...well it was a classic NES game with NO SAVES! Most games were one beat and done and the feeling of accomplishment when beating a game like this is what makes gaming great. I loved the 8-bit soundtrack and the graphics of the game, although it was just an alright experience overall.

Sonic Lost World (Wii U) Review

$
0
0

Nintendo and SEGA Sammy signed on May of this year, a deal for an exclusive Sonic game (akin to Sonic Colors) where the game would be released only on the Nintendo Wii U and 3DS. The game announced was a game that received much internet hype but little acclaim in reviewers eyes: Sonic Lost World. Gone is Sonic's "new" style of play where using the boost mechanic in a 2D-behind the back view along with a bit of 3D-platforming first founded in Sonic Unleashed. In Lost World, many of the levels require you to traverse across 3D-spherical worlds using the mechanics of something close to Super Mario Galaxy and the cancelled Sonic X-treme.

The story in Sonic Lost World was either written by 4Kids or by a group of 8-year olds at a playground. Dr. Robotnik (err Eggman) has gone very Sonic 1-esque and stolen Sonic's animal friends [think Flicky's] is fleeing from Sonic and Tails, until both of them crash onto a world in the sky above known as the Lost Hex. On this planet, Dr. Robotnik is controlling creatures known as the Yeti with some type of magic conch (cue the Spongebob Joke) and having them attack Sonic. Now it's up to Sonic to save two planets...or is it?

The biggest change to this game and probably the most controversial is the new gameplay implemented in Sonic Lost World. Stated before, gone is pure-speed boost gameplay of the day levels found in Sonic Unleashed, Colors, and Generations, and in with a new style. The style is a 3D-adventure platformer style with few levels implementing speed-based 2D back-view camera levels (such as grinding or running without stop in a level). The first notable change you will get when you play Sonic Lost World is the lack of speed that the apparent hedgehog is known for. The game requires you to hold down a sprint button in order for Sonic to pick up speed, although chances are you will be holding the button 90% of the time. By holding down this sprint button, you allow Sonic to try his new array of moves in the style of parkour; you can automatically hop over small ledges or you can run on walls.

Now, the first problem I had with these parkour moves was that they simply do not execute well. The game really does not tell you how to control Sonic's new style and in turn you have to practice it if you want to at least be decent at them. In addition, I always noticed when running on walls my speed dramatically fell halfway and if there was no other wall to bounce/juggle between them for a speed boost, then you basically were just a falling brick (this played critical in the last worlds). The second problem had to be the horrible transition of these moves when playing levels. With Sonic's new worlds being larger and of course spherical, akin Galaxy and its exploration, the player is constantly stuck between wanting to finish the world or wanting to explore more; as there is still a time limit. Occasionally, you will actually go somewhat fast with Sonic the Hedgehog, but suddenly be thrown a parkour element area that just brings the joy of the game to a complete halt.

While the Double Jump ability and a few of the wisps (color coded aliens that give Sonic different abilities) return from Sonic Colors, the new style of Homing Attack makes you wish for the classic Sonic Adventure style. The new homing attack is based off how many enemies Sonic can look onto in one jump; meaning you will not receive points for hitting enemies one-by-one, instead you must lock onto all the enemies at once although that rarely works in this game. Sonic is also featured with a new kick-homing attack as well where you press the Y button, instead of the B button, to kick some enemies who apparently can't be damaged by the classic jump. This new ability is rarely used or easily forgotten and apparently will only matter on a few enemies that you probably can just run past anyway. The kick move does have a positive as Sonic kicks the enemy into other enemies, so in turn it takes out a few enemies.

A few more things about gameplay of the game are the inclusion of multiplayer in both games, although I did not use the feature, the return of the Red Rings (which are essential to obtaining Super Sonic), and the Miiverse ability sharing. The Red Rings are scattered across each level and sometimes require multiple runs through one level, since the classic Sonic idea of multiple ways to reach the end is still alive in this game. The only problem with most of the Red Rings is some of them require you to parkour your way to them and well no one wants to that. The Miiverse ability allows you to send and receive items from fellow players, such as 50 rings, a Blue/Laser Wisp, etc. that you can hold in your storage (up to 5) and use at the beginning of a level similar to Super Mario Bros 3. The idea is well thought out and you usually are bombarded with more items than you can carry, but that is a good thing more than it is a negative.

Only one can save them.... Sonic!

Lastly, the over-world in Sonic Lost World is like a map from a Super Mario Bros game. You are faced in a top down direction and although you have free control over the area, you can only advance one level per-time. As you progress later in the game, levels are unlocked by the amount of Flickies or Animals you save in each level. If you did not save that many during your running through levels, then do not worry! Sonic Lost World likes to have side-minigames near the levels in the overworld that look like circus' where you can save a great amount of Animals to advance.

One thing Sonic Lost World does have going for it is its graphics. The game looks beautiful, is very radiant, each level is very well designed and be it from the GamePad or your TV Screen, is a joy to look at it. The music in the game is a step back from games like Colors and Generations, but still does its job being entertaining and fitting the motif of each world/level. Replay-value in the game reaches a moderate level, but mainly due to its bad gameplay. Sonic Lost World does feature many things such as a Bonus World after beating the final boss, the side minigames, Robo-Chao missions, and of course multiplayer and the Red Rings. However, you may want to skip those grueling cutscenes because not only is the voice acting and story bad, but what they did to Knuckles character....

Conclusion

Overall: 6.4/10

Sonic Lost World....is not Sonic the Hedgehog 2006, but that's not a game you want to be compared with. The game doesn't feel right, especially for a Sonic game. Gone is his classic speed, gone are the tougher 2D platform areas (yes even if the camera was bad enough to kill you *cough Sonic Unleashed) and gone is the most important thing about Sonic, smooth transition from fast to slow. It feels like the developers of this game tried to either remake Sonic gameplay in their own light or they got lost trying to make Sonic do too many things. Why change his Homing Attack? Why in the 2D Speed/Grind non-stop behind-the-back camera levels did you get rid of "Quick Step"? (a natural jump does not work at ALL with these levels). The idea of the parkour moves work in the areas of the short ledges but in the areas of wall jumping/running (be it parallel or up them) just do not work out.

In addition, the controlling of Sonic's gravity is horrible. You have no momentum if you jump without holding the sprint button, but if you do then you can't jump on to any platform ledge close! Many meaningless deaths are caused by this, even if you added a ledge grab ability for Sonic. Personally scrap this idea for Sonic and start anew or go back to the old because this is not the right direction for The Blue Blur; I may have been too overexcited for the game but Sonic's my idol and to see him in this game just reminds me of 2006.

Game of the Year 2013 Troyfullbuster- Console, Multiplat, Handheld, Anti-GoTY, and Overall

$

0

It's that time of year...the end of the year! Now's the time you look back on all the games you played since 2013 and realize that you probably only played a few games that actually came out in 2013 and have to somehow decide which was the best of the best. The first thing I wanted to say before I went into my awards is probably how disappointing 2013 was in terms of gaming; a pretty weak year with more overrated titles than one's eyes can read past. From the mainstream directly influencing everything it was hard to find few real gems out there in a year of many releases.

[note: sorry no PS4 or Xbox One nothing out for them really and/or didn't really play them otherwise it would be Resogun and Killer Instinct]

[note 2: don't steal gifs if you want to use mine go right ahead just credit per usual]

Consoles/Handhelds

PS3: Winner: Ni No Kuni Wrath of the White Witch

[Review] Ni No Kuni was clearly the best PS3 game that one could get, from its gorgeous soundtrack, beautiful Studio Ghibli animation, to fantastic story and gameplay; the game was a delight for anyone decided to play this instant classic. The best thing about Ni No Kuni was how diverse it was and how free you felt, even with its homage to "old-school JRPG's". Constantly, I found myself drawn by the story wanting to know what awaited Oliver and his friends in this new found magical world, only to be shown more plot twists and tricks to keep this fantasy going. In addition, "grinding" wasn't a hassle at all considering the game's action-RPG nature, with your constantly switching out familiars or doing sidequests non-stop. Things that stood out most to me were: the great characters, especially Lord High Lord of the Fairies Mr. Drippy and the very smooth gameplay, with a simple leveling up system that was more advanced than the eye could see, and how in-depth the sidequests were. For the player to actually have to read the Wizard's Companion that is given in the game, really shows the detail put forth.

Runner-Up: Disgaea D2

nino

Nintendo

Wii U: Winner: Super Mario 3D World

[review coming soon] Super Mario 3D World is exactly what you want for a Mario game, especially one you had no idea what to expect. Nintendo shows us all that they still got, even when they force the idea of co-op multiplayer onto us, and this game shows why. SM3DW not only is gorgeous to look at, but the soundtrack could possibly be one of the best ones Nintendo has brought to us since Super Mario Galaxy. From the diverse gameplay (YES there is a difference when you play as Mario, Luigi, Peach, or Toad), fantastic level design, hidden difficulty (some of those sticker spots like wow 100% doesn't come easy), to amazing co-op, and just overall fun this game is the absolute must-have of any person wanting or getting a Wii U. You know a game is great when you can just pick it up, anytime, anywhere, with anybody and just have a blast.

3d2

Runner-up: Wonderful 101

Nintendo 3DS: Winner: Mario & Luigi Dream Team

[review coming soon] Mario & Luigi Dream Team is the fourth entry of the Mario & Luigi series and one of the best RPG's a person can have for a handheld. From the clever story writing and overall hilarity, to its open-world with tons of minigames, the game offers more than just an RPG with a point A to B objective. The Mario & Luigi series didn't have the strongest titles on the DS and I believe they lost the charm of what made SuperStar Saga one of the best games ever, but Nintendo proved us wrong with this awesome adventure of the Mario Bros. One thing that makes this game great is really how much post-game stuff there is to do, besides the normal 30 hour adventure, in fact there even is a new game + or Hard Mode to challenge those who may have thought it was too easy.

ml

Runner-up: Pokemon X/Y

Multiplat/Anti-Game

Multi-platform

Winner: Rayman Legends

[review coming soon] Remember when people were threatening not to buy this game because Ubisoft decided to make this game multi-plat and not a Wii U exclusive? Well, those people missed out on one of the best games of the year. Rayman is back with the sequel of the fantastic 2011 Rayman Origins and this time he's just as good. The platforming is beautiful and makes old-school and new-gamers rejoice, the new style of graphics is joy to play/watch, and its charming and funny ways still tug at the players heart. Rayman Legends is showing the world that 2D-platformers still rock and only get better.

Runner-up: Assassian's Creed IV: Black Flag

ANTI-Game of the Year

Winner: The Last of Us (PS3)

[review] Did you ever want a game that was so overrated that every internet comment has to mention it this game like it changed the landscape of gaming a la Super Mario 64? Well then, Naughty Dog does just that with their survival-horror game called The Last of Us. TLOU is a game that is meant to be realistic and show grueling horrible nature of humans in a decayed world, but in turn we get a snooze-fest with horrible gameplay and a very bad story.

The idea of this game is to bring realism into gaming, and yet Naughty Dog sets their own rules just to constantly break them leaving the player scratching his head why even bother trying to understand or even play the game. In addition, many features of this game were not at all new, unless you count Joel's swaying from his "gun skills", the idea of swimming and horse-back riding were already used in their previous franchise Uncharted. One last gripe has to be the soundtrack, barren and when heard boring just as the game, so in turn it fits the motif of TLOU. The great multiplayer can't save this game from being the worst of the year.

Runner-Up: Sonic Lost World (Wii U)- Why SEGA? [review here]

Only one can save them.... Sonic!

THE WINNER

SUPER MARIO 3D WORLD! *Mario yells WHA-HOOO then the piano from the opening starts*

This game was the game to have no play in 2013. From it's fantastic gameplay, be it solo or with friends or even strangers, to it's constant challenges Nintendo shows they still have it, even if everyone decided to bash them when this game was first announced. It's been a while since a Mario game was so fun, appealing, challenging, and just simply fantastic in every sense. Maybe the plan of filling our plates with New Super Mario Bros. games so much, would make this game so much better just returning to his "3D roots" (in a new sense). If you ever wanted a game that provided more and more each time you played, or gave you the option to play in many different ways, then look no further.

Troy Blog #1 of 2014- Getting back in the Flow + TLMB Contest/Giveaway stuff

$

Happy New Year to my fellow friends and readers of myIGN and also a mega late Merry Christmas! It's been a while since I've blogged, actually over a month, which is a career long for me but hey, time flies when you beat too many games...AND I MEAN TOO MANY GAMES.

Might as well start with the TLMB Gaming news first (i.e. my YouTube Channel) I'll be putting out a later blog telling everyone about a little contest we are holding since we hit over 150 subs and over 10K views! We're hoping we can hit 250 subscribers before we officially turn 1 Year Old! The last month was a bit hectic with finals and holidays, but now we're back to normal so everyone can enjoy again!

It's almost time for school again, and I'll be entering my official final year unless I feel like returning next spring to get a Political Science degree along with my Economics degree. I'm a bit excited although nervous, I need a super good internship either this summer or right when I leave school so I can find a job; otherwise it is off to graduate school!

On the real news that people care about on myIGN from everyone but me, is GAMES! Yeah I've beaten a lot of them and I've really REALLY been slacking on the reviews lately! I'm sorry about that, it's just during the break my mind is always all over the place and the fact it was like I had so many games I had to play my mind really only focuses on completing them!

So far on the review drafts/backlog on here I have :

  • Pokemon X/Y
  • LoZ: Link Between Worlds
  • Mario & Luigi Dream Team
  • Phoenix Wright 5: Dual Destinies* (playing currently)
  • Rayman Legends
  • Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD ReMIX
  • Dangan Ronpa PSP
  • Uncharted Vita
  • Gravity Rush Vita
  • Tearaway Vita
  • Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness * (just beat but need 100%)

As you can see this is obviously what I was doing during Christmas break besides the usual streaming and working out! Honestly, right now I would say my favorite game of that list is Rayman Legends, the most overrated was Dangan Ronpa (internet overrating things as usual *cough lesbo-Lightning*) and most disappointing so far is Phoenix Wright 5 (WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU!?)

There are so many games coming out in 2014 that I'm glad I didn't waste my money getting a PS4 yet...although Killer Instinct on the Xbox One is amazing I won't be paying $500 for a FTP game that costs 30 bucks! A few off the bat for me are One Piece Romance Dawn, Donkey Kong Country Returns: Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8 and so many more! This reminds me how I have to get FFXIII-3 or Lightning Returns (ugh) because I just 100%'ed FFXIII-2 and while I love Noel and Serah and this game has a minimum amount of them [what made FFXIII-2 so good was Lightning was cast aside and it revolved around them]; I have spent too much time and money on the series to just leave it be. You can't just not finish something!

I TRIED SO HARD ON THIS GIF TRYING NEW IDEAS UNLIKE ALL YOU STEALERS so don't steal thanks ;D

de2

The last thing I wanted to say has to do with streaming! Well my channel has gotten 10x better than usual and I'm super close to 150 subs on it; it's just I'm on a mini-hiatus only because my laptop can't handle the streaming anymore and Billy's BUILDING ME A PC! I'm mad excited now I can play like the 2 computer games I've wanted to play! I just wanted to thank Jay, Panda, and Bri for always being there and conversing and stuff with me! We beat many games and now even more to come!

*fyi I still suck at watching anime so no updates there X_X

Gravity Rush Review

$
0
0

In 2012 the Playstation Vita received a brand new IP, with Sony hoping that this would become one of the Vita's showcase games to finally entice sales. This game was showcased as Gravity Rush, a unique cel-shaded action game with many ideas, all possible due to the PS Vita's unique specs. A little over two years later, I've finally gotten to picking up the game through being a Playstation Plus member, as it has been free along with another Vita showcase, Uncharted: Golden Abyss. For those of who you who own a PS Vita without Playstation Plus, you will still be looking at a sales price of $40.00

Gravity Rush is located in the fictional floating town of Hekseville, where in turn you meet our protagonist, Kat, who wakes up in the opening cinematic with no memories whatsoever. Upon waking up, you see a strange cat where, with the aid of your magical cat Dusty (Kat names it), you control Kat and can alter gravity to your will. As far as the story goes, upon waking up in this town, you realize you have no memories but you decide, with these powers, you are able to help citizens and the government and possibly find out who or what you really are. As the story progresses, you find out there are evil creatures called "Nevi" that are invading the town of Hekseville, in which the government is trying to stop; as well as another female, Raven, who like you can bend gravity, possibly knowing who you truly are.

The gameplay is a bit open-world, as there are story missions divided into chapters, with the option of doing many side-missions, to increase your stats or collect crystals. Kat is constantly learning new moves, so that your experience never gets boring when you decide to fight hordes of Nevi. The game map is very user friendly, despite its odd, yet unique controls. Every mission you select will always have a marker to indicate how far you must travel; in addition to your free gravity roaming ways, there are sewer shortcuts to get you across Hekseville, considering the town is massive. As you progress in your play, more areas that were lost to the Nevi, become available thereby creating a whole new world, where you could see different districts and how the city really runs.

To explain the open-world part specifically is that you control Kat and gravity, without the care for any civilians (just dropping them at several hundred feet) where you can freely travel the town to either main-story related missions or sidequest missions, all indicated on a marker you select on your pause screen menu. In terms of the battle and RPG components of the game, it is simple, yet addictive. For the RPG parts, you gain crystals everywhere, be it floating in town or just completing missions, in which turn you use these crystals to upgrade your stats such as Kick, Gravity Control, Gravity Speed, etc. The more you upgrade Kat, the better time you have in the game; because as time progresses more and more enemies spawn and you're gonna need to upgrade.

grab

The battling uses every part and spec the PS Vita has to offer. By pressing R, you send Kat into a Zero-G mode where then you decide which way the flow of gravity should be. Enemies/Nevis usually have a giant red glowing dot on them as their weak spot, so you are going to want to adjust the camera with either the Right Stick or using the Gyroscope the Vita is capable of doing. Personally, I used the right stick most of the time, but later on I got used to the Gyroscope where it became a more accurate option as I practiced! Kat has two moves: kicks on the ground and kicks using gravity. From all of Kat's abilities, the developers try to use the Vita in every aspect, as swiping across your screen consists of Kat dodging, or holding both fingers to your screenlets Kat Gravity Slide (a fun and hectic way to travel). Most of the time you will be floating around or being pissed up from you trying to stop on a dime and then accidentally landing on a building in a horizontal manner; throwing yourself off. This will be a very common occurrence, because all the side missions in the game are broken down into Time Attacks, or fighting hordes. However, you get used to it and that's what makes Gravity Rush fun.

A unique combat system that's oddly addictive

One thing that really bothered me in the game besides it's horrible story, was the character design; Kat is just ugly (along with everyone else) and to tell you the truth every character is pretty forgettable. Heck, the game barely has a consistent flow later on, that you are just playing hoping to get answers that are, eventually, never answered! One feature, which I thought was fantastic was the small "cinematic" comic strip parts, explaining events. The comics looked great and best part allowed for gyroscope and in a sense a stereoscopic view, so you could enjoy the art. The music is fantastic, however it does not fit the motif of the game and most of the time, you enjoy it during your long Zero-G travels of town. Don't get me wrong I love the OST in the game and its symphonic songs, it's just the game seems like a pseudo-steampunk and well, Ni No Kuni like songs don't work.

One thing the game does have is replay-value, if you skipped the sidequests or you wanted to hit them after you completed the game, they are always there waiting for you to complete them. While they may get a bit repetitive and tedious, there are tons of cool things to explore, even hidden Nevi bosses!

Overall

Score: 6.7/10

I probably would have never played this game if it wasn't free and to tell you the truth it definitely isn't worth full retail value. Besides being very disconnected with the characters and their horrible design, Kat is annoying and the story is a mess. I did find the combat to be very unique and fun, although the most fun I had was at the end when I learned the game and mastered most of the abilities to a higher level. Some of the side missions make you want to pull your hair out, like accidentally hitting a side of a building while Gravity Falling, in turn shifting gravity to the left and ruining your score for a 3-star! The game is a big rinse-and-repeat that can't hide how limited it truly is.

Dangan Ronpa Trigger Happy Havoc Review

$

0

Dangan Ronpa, the soon-to-be PS Vita released in February, was originally released in Japan on the PSP nearly four years ago. The series has gained much popularity as of late, spawning many sequels and even an anime as of late! With its growing popularity, NIS has decided to localize it and share it with the rest of the world. Dangan Ronpa is a murder mystery visual novel (similar to that of 999: Nine Hours Nine People Nine Doors) [side note if anyone wants to see one of my mega old crappy reviews here ]but also draws unreasonable comparisons to the Ace Attorney series. Though what makes this game unique is its free and vast variety of play-styles.

Dangan Ronpa takes place in the elite high school located in Japan known as Hope’s Academy. Hope’s Academy is filled with the best of the best; as their students are known as Super High School Level/Ultimate in a variety of fields ranging from Idol to even Otaku. The game has you take control over the character Makoto Naegi, who was recently accepted into the elite high school by raffle, being known as the “Super High School Luckster”. Upon arriving at the high school, Naegi loses consciousness and reawakens inside to meet fourteen other Super High School Level students who had a similar experience. It is then a despair-loving, remote-controlled bear named Monokuma appears before them, telling them they are all imprisoned in the academy for the rest of their lives. Monokuma though offers a single way for students to leave or “graduate” the academy and to do that is for the student to murder another student and not be identified as the culprit.

What makes Dangan Ronpa special is the vast styles of gameplay it has to offer. Dangan Ronpa is split up from its time as a visual novel with tidbits of a dating simulator, where you can increase characters like/love level towards Makoto Naegi giving him bonuses, followed by a type of Ace Attorney/999-type investigation of areas. Of course the biggest of them all is the Class Trial at the end of each episode/chapter. Most of the game will require you to read and interact with the entire school cast; each person will provide you either hints towards solving the murder-mystery or just say something usually funny or off-base. Important discussions are further advanced the Re:ACT system, which is triggered by pressing triangle on the respective keyword. The best and most memorable moments of the game usually happen when Monokuma (the main villain) is talking to the students. One of my personal favorite lines were "It doesn't matter how negative something is just add an 'lol' and it becomes positive!"

dr

If you aren't talking to the characters when trying to solve a mystery you are either exploring Hope's Academy or "hanging out" with a character of your choice. "Hanging out" is basically the interaction portion of the game, where you decide to accompany a character who will tell you more about themselves. Sometimes the characters will ask you questions regarding facts, so answering correctly will affect that person's view of you. After hanging out with a character, you have the option to present a gift to them, which can be obtained by finding Monokuma Coins (scattered everywhere in the game). The coins are used in a Super Smash Bros Melee type vending machine. The gift you give should depend on the character's personality, the better suited it is towards that character, the more they will like you. For example Aoi Asahina is a Super High School Level Swimmer, so bathing suits, goggles, are some of the many things she likes.

The previously mentioned exploration aspect is key and similar to the 999 and Gyakuten Saiban games. As you play as Makoto, you can walk into any room in the school and observe almost anything using your cursor. You will either find things you find important to the case, which then become recorded as "Ammunition" or you find Monokuma coins in useless, random things. The best part of exploration is the total freedom you have in the game. You can explore nearly anything as long as the area is open in addition the game allows you to everything! If you wanted to analyze a chair or every TV in the room because you want to, then go on ahead!

To explain what was meant by Ammunition we need to explain the most integral part of the gameplay, The Class Trial. Class Trials occur at the end of every chapter and only when you have received all the Ammunition for the case. Once, you get all the facts, the class bell will ring and bring you to the Class Trial. Class Trials ARE NOTHING LIKE Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney cases. The cases are broken down into many types of games and you can set it to any difficulty you want to before the trial. The first style of gameplay is the Nonstop Debate. The Nonstop Debate consists of you listening to characters talk about the incident and you as the player try to find a contradiction to the facts. To contradict a someone, you must aim your cursor to a highlighted text and select the right ammunition (if playing at a higher difficulty). Listening to the debate can be done for up to fifteen minutes, though it will take you a much shorter time to figure it out. During the trial you will then run into another type of gameplay called the Epiphany Anagram. The Epiphany Anagram is simple, it has Makoto thinking of the answer with random words floating around and an empty chart displayed, asking the player to figure out what the word is and an answer to a case mystery.

in each chapter the gameplay expands more and more bringing a thrilling experience to the Class Trial.

Not enough was the inspiration of the games listed above, but Dangan Ronpa likes to take a little something from beat rhythm games in this next segment of the Class Trial: The Machine Gun Talk Battle or MTB. The MTB has you pitted against a student who argues your logic, though you don't need contradictions to defeat him, you just need good button pressing skills. As words come up, you press X to lock onto his statements, Triangle to destroy them, and Square to reload, although this must be done in sequence/with the beat. Lastly, the way to end a Class Trial is with Climax Logic. Climax Logic requires you to use all that you've figured out during the case and assimilate a comic, depicting the murder and the culprit all in one go. The gameplay for the Class Trial is very fun and keeps you on your feet; in fact as you get further in each chapter the gameplay expands more and more bringing a thrilling experience to the Class Trial.

Dangan Ronpa has graphics that aren't the best but were touched up for the Vita version. The areas will remind you of PS2 type graphics, though the character art and design are very good. The music is fitting for a horror visual novel, but it really is at it's best during the class trials. The intense sounds go well with trying to solve a mystery with your life on the line. The replay-value for Dangan Ronpa originally is not the high, though the PS Vita adds a new version to the game called School Life, where you can experience the game without the murders; in other words a whole new type of game. I would say it has moderate replay-value only because the main allure factor of the game is its story, but if you want to explore the new mode, find some hidden endings, or see other relationships go on ahead.

Overall

Score: 7.5/10

I only gave Dangan Ronpa a chance because of how much the internet overrated the series. Honestly, everyone was talking about how great reading a playthrough was without even playing it and then an anime came out for it so, I decided to give it a shot. The beginning of the game I was hooked, always wanting to know what happens next, though personally I found the mysteries pretty easy to solve. The characters are well developed but I don't see why this game is compared to Ace Attorney, 999 is the closest example but Dangan Ronpa is its own game. As the game went on, my interest died down and I don't see this being as good as people said, even if they didn't even play the game. The ending left me wondering even if I wanted to play the sequel Super Dangan Ronpa, only time will tell!

My game of the year of 2014 is the only game I've played from 2014 so far lol TLMB Play's Octodad Dadliest Catch

$

0

It's been a while since I've recorded or done anything for TLMB or put anything up. This really has nothing to do with the massive 'review' backlog I have or the new trailer TLMB made which I will definitely show you guys later.

It has to do with the newest game I've played and only 2014 game so far, Octodad: Dadliest Catch. To tell you the truth, I never watched any gameplay, read the review, or even saw what it looked like. The most I saw was on IGN when they reviewed it and said posing as an human, even though you are an alien. Now, I thought this was the new Surgeon Simulator 2013, aka some crappy computer game which had it's 5 minutes of fame, but to tell you the truth Octodad is hilarious yet fun.

The game's over the top controls and just obliviousness to reality or normal functions makes it something you can enjoy doing, but yet still want to win. The best part is how obvious you are an alien and can't even speak English, yet if you do things not in the norm of society, then people raise their suspicions about you. The game is pretty much summed up at the 2:10 mark. I'm pretty glad we started playing this dumb game and I oddly want to beat the whole thing, so let's hope we do at TLMB Gaming. If you have time and need a good laugh play the game or watch someone play it, it's just one of those games that are just meant to be like...WHAT!?

I was going to originally put 25 but I don't feel like torturing everyone and it's not like people can load separate pages; however since IGN is getting on all this Top 25 action I might as well list my Top Games of All-Time. After much research and staying up all-night trying to figure out which mean, not only to me, but to all of gaming I finally came up with the list.

*note all GIFs were created by me please don't steal just ask for permission [all fan art leads to respective page]

HERE WE GO [TLMB making beats pre-recordings]

test

Top 25 Though I will only write about 15 of them!

#25- Sonic Adventure 1 & 2- Rolling around at the speed of sound! If you don't know that song or love Crush 40 then I question your Sonic Adventure...ness. SA is the first game I got on my Dreamcast and honestly, one of the best Sonic experiences there is. From having my Chao in my Dreamcast memory card, which was basically a Tamagotchi, to beating up Shadow that fake hedgehog! To just speed.

#24- Mario Kart Wii/Series- Mario Kart only gets better with age, like wine...except I like Mario Kart. Mario Kart Wii was everything I love about Mario Kart done even better. From the beginning of remaking classic stages, to the 12-player races, perfect online, ghost downloads, bikes, and tons of new characters, I can always bring my friends over and play Mario Kart.

#23-Kirby 64- To tell you the truth I wasn't the biggest of Kirby fans, playing his GameBoy adventures, but when I got Kirby 64 something hit just right. The ability to combine powers to make epic weapons, like a dual lightsaber (Darth Maul), a flame saber, ninja stars, and more made this adventure all the more awesome. Let's not forget the difficulty it has to get all the crystal shards!

#22-Ratchet and Clank (series)- I can't get enough of Ratchet and Clank, they are hilarious yet heartfelt. The duo has gone on some crazy adventures and I was glad to laugh and feel for them the whole way.

#21- Spyro 3: Year of the Dragon- Spyro, voiced by Tom Kenny, is back in this epic adventure where you can even skateboard, or the fact that this game has bonus world if you 100% the game (unlike Spyro 2's fake world) and there is so much to do, that replaying it will take you a good amount of time.

#20- Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness- I cried playing this game, not Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core cried, but still cried from THREE OF THE ENDINGS and some other scenes. How can one game have multiple endings to make you cry? Also, this game post-game is so deep, I still don't know till this day.

#19- Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy- The first game I had for my PS2, I just remember being mindblown the second I placed it in.

#18- Paper Mario 64- The first Paper Mario has charm, depth, great writing, and of course Koops!

#17- Metroid Prime- Discovering a world, fighting aliens, being legtimately scared vs the cloaked Zebes (until you got X-Ray vision), oh and those upgrades.

#16- The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap tie w/ Twilight Princess & Link to the Past- These three Zelda games are what the Legend of Zelda is about. None of them are remotely close to even playing like each other, yet they all are so unique and amazing that it is clear that it belongs in this franchise. Be it killing Ganon or Vaati, you never forget playing a great game.

#15- Super Smash Bros (series)

This was actually the hardest game(s) to put into the list, I wanted to include the games above and write about them as well but; I ultimately went with Super Smash Bros. Why? Well the answer is simple enough, I still play all three to this day, and I've never grown tired of it. From playing by myself, discovering new characters, to all-nighters Smashing with friends, this is one of the best games anyone can ever play.

#14- Marvel vs. Capcom 2

Marvel vs Capcom 2 is the greatest fighting game to ever grace anything ever. I said it, because it really is. I remember first playing this game at the arcade, then I bought it for my SEGA Dreamcast, then I bought it for my PS2, then I bought it for my Xbox 360 and PS3; because it is that good. I used to be horrible at this game, but once you learn all the characters (the most for any fighting game ever) realize how different every single character is, what teams work with what assists, this game is so much deeper than the eye can possibly see at first. Which is why, over the years I've played this game...I only love it more.

#13- Phoenix Wright 3: Trials and Tribulations

I laughed when I heard the idea of Phoenix Wright on the DS and GBA. Honestly, yes Capcom let me play as a lawyer in court because this is what everyone wants to play these days. It was unfathomable, in my head, and I thought to myself I was never going to play it. One day, my friend gave me his copy of Phoenix Wright, the first one, and from there I've never looked back. Playing Phoenix Wright 3 has now become a yearly ritual for me because it is that good; in fact IGN added my yearly replay blog to the front page, if anyone remembers. PW3 has everything you can want in a visual novel/mystery game; great characters, awesome music, and an ending that will blow your mind.

#12- Pokemon R/B/Y

What else can I say besides singing the entire opening to the Pokemon cartoon? But really, Pokemon Blue was my first Pokemon game because my older brother got Pokemon Red and I couldn't be a copycat! Pokemon is a game anyone can get into and back then it was a lot more....harder. I've played a few of the new generation Pokemon's but they just don't have the same effect that the original three had. From your douche rival Blue, to Giovanni being a badass, to awesome 8-bit tunes and MEWTWO & MEW.

#11- Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped!

Crash Bandicoot..WARPED! This is the Crash Bandicoot that made it worth while. From all your insane power-ups [a BAZOOKA!], to the vast amount of levels, insane replay value, and memorable bosses, Crash 3 is that good. The game allows one to go so in-depth with one file, that platinuming your Time Trials after collecting every Gem and Crystal wasn't enough!

#10- Kingdom Hearts (1)

We finally made it to the top 10! And with that we start off with something no one thought would succeed...Kingdom Hearts! I remember still watching those first commercials in 2001-2002; I knew it was going to be that good. Kingdom Hearts really introduced me into action-RPG and I can honestly say it might be my favorite type of genre. From exploring my favorite Disney worlds, with amazing characters, to Cloud's Kingdom Heart 1 design, thank you Squaresoft.

clo

#9- Mario

Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga is the best GBA game anyone can ever play. Yep, it really comes down to that; you thought you read funny writing in previous games? You thought that the simple action-RPG button commands was simple, tell that to the Hidden Bros. moves to a player with a keen eye. You thought you beat the game after beating the main boss, only to find another 10-15 hours after that which technically is still the main-story? Yep, Superstar Saga redefines Mario RPG's and also the handheld RPG genre.

(art founded here: http://greathorn.deviantart.com/art/Fink-Rats-389319490)

#8- Super Mario Bros. 3

Super Mario Bros 3 is such a classic that it isn't. SMB3 brings a challenge to gamers but at the same time allows a player to attack all its levels that there could be "no" right way to finish a level. Let's not forget also, the expanded idea of powerups now exisitng in the Mario world all due to this game. From the Frog Suit, to the Hammer Suit, the Cloud, to the P-Wing, even the World Skipping Flute, there is so much too miss in Super Mario Bros 3, that playing it 5 times is not enough. In fact, play it forever on every system you know; Nintendo knows.

#7- Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest

I actually thought Donkey Kong Country was better my first time around playing and owning the trilogy. But, I replayed DKC2 a few times and I came to realize that nothing can top this game. Diddy and Dixie offer such different play-styles, but what really got me in this game was just the level design and how flawlessly you can control either character. I can only say is this is one of those games that just feel right as you play it and uhh BRAMBLE BLAST.

#6- Banjo-Tooie

Banjo-Tooie is so good that I still wish that Stop-N-Swap actually worked. On the real note, Banjo-Tooie brings the funny charm from Banjo-Kazooie but expands the world 100x to make it such an epic adventure, that you would think that DLC is going to come out for it, to this day! The game has so many levels, amazing new abilities, and even Dragon Kazooie...need I say more?

#5- Super Mario 64

Super Mario 64 created 3D gaming. It also makes me melt inside a little everytime I play this perfect game. From the actual difficulty of wall-jumping, to going Metal Mario for the first time, and the infinite stairs; Super Mario 64 is the game that made me realize that the next generation of gaming is gonna be alright. I still refuse to play this game without a classic N64 controller (not counting the great DS remake) and why? Because it just is meant to be played like that and honestly its hard to take someone's word on gaming if they haven't played this game.

(art found here: http://fadinfadin.deviantart.com/art/Super-Mario-64-efeitos-243613115)

#4- Final Fantasy IX

I never really liked RPG's back on my SNES, which is odd considering how many great JRPG's exist for that system. But, one day in Toys R' Us, I saw Final Fantasy IX and I was like "cool". I knew right away this game would be awesome, I had no idea what it was, but I knew I needed it. Upon my Mom buying it for me (hey I was eight...or seven?!) I put in right in my PSX and automatically fell into that world. This is the Final Fantasy that people need to play, eight main characters, each with their own troubles and difficulties they must overcome, gameplay that goes so indepth that the homages to Final Fantasy I through VIII make it seem like SquareSoft planned to make this the perfect game. You want to explore multiple continents, you want to do so many sidequests, that in fact there are separate stories (QTE-Quick Time Events) for secondary characters and the quests? You wanted to do one impossible item-fetch quest and get Excalibur 2?

Yeah this game is 4 Discs long, 60+ hours, has a Cloud and Squall tribute, a Star Wars quote, and you get to play a sword fight with the first active commands I've ever used in a game, for a freaking play. This game was so good, even my teachers played this game back in the day and we used to talk about it.

#3- Sonic 3

Sonic 3 & Knuckles is the greatest thing I've ever played and it only gets better the more I beat it. First off, COMBINING GAMES ON MY GENESIS!? That right there is black magic in itself, but to add all the levels from Sonic 3 to Sonic & Knuckles while combining the story is enough to make my heart stop. Let's not forget you can play as Knuckles or Solo Tails and go Hyper Knuckles or Hyper Tails if you didn't want to be Super Sonic then Hyper Sonic.

I just want to say, besides the best music to ever exist (thanks Michael Jackson) [Ice Cap Zone Act 1 is just one of many], the damn replay-value, the multiplayer in both the 2P vs or the 1P co-op campaign, or the best Emerald-fetch minigames/sidegame bonus levels; that if you really love 2D platforming and/or Sonic, this game should be in your system right now.

#2- Super Mario World

At first Super Mario Bros 3 used to be my favorite Mario game; it was my first Mario game naturally. However, Super Mario World I really got into, not on my SNES, but on the GBA remake. Then, I knew all the tricks of the trade for a Mario game and in turn I discovered how deep this game actually is. The special Yoshi colors is only one bonus of this awesome, bountiful game. Boo Mansion's only got harder and harder, water levels still make me cringe, and one of the hardest levels of ALL-TIME exist in the dreaded Special Bonus world called "TUBULAR"

Thank you Super Mario World for all the great times.

#1-Ocarina of Time

My number one game of all-time is the most deserved game of all-time, why? Well, I can play this game today and still not see anything wrong with it, while some new games made over ten years later have more flaws than this masterpiece. Ocarina of Time is that game that made you realize that there's a whole new world out there and you have to explore it. Not only is the story enough to lure you in, but Ocarina of Time portrays Ganondorf in one of his best roles' while making his Ganon form the best looking to date.

I forgot to mention the flawless battle-gameplay design, ranging from bow-and-arrows, to the Longshot, the fetch quest for the Biggoron Sword, the masterful Z-lock on targeting system, to unforgettable magic attacks. Ocarina of Time also has one of the most memorable sub-bosses in history, that it makes the legendary Water Temple and its boss seem like chumps, and that is the perfect sword fighting of Dark Link. That moment still gives me goosebumps to this day. And if sword fighting isn't your thing, you can't forget the awesome Bomchu minigames, the very deep Gold Skullta quest, riding with Epona for the first time, playing around with your Ocarina for hours, and the legendary gaebora kaepora who would place NO first instead of YES making sure you paid attention.

[this final GIF I didn't make it belongs to user sephirona]

There's so many other things I can go into for the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time but the only true way to experience this game is to actually play it yourself. Go, it's on almost every Nintendo system rightfully so and you can even play the better version in Master Quest after you beat the game, because once you play it...you'll know!

I hope you enjoyed this list, even if I feel like I should still change some up or add some more, just know it kills you a little inside when you have to narrow down your favorite games!

A Guide on how to not steal GIFs or giving credit

$
0
0

Everyone loves GIF's right? Well that's common, I mean who doesn't love moving pictures when they see one; it's like we are living in Harry Potter! But, I wanted to talk about GIF's on a serious level; considering I was probably the first guy on this site to use GIF's in their blogs/articles back in 2011, and the fact that I MAKE GIF's I just wanted to say something that's been bothering me for a while.

STOP STEALING GIFS

I've asked multiple users for this, especially MrsDeanMartin who has in turned blocked me because I told her that she did not make those gifs. [the videogame gifs]

Now, what does that exactly mean? Well, it is the most simple of things it means either:

A) Make your own damn GIF's

or

B) GIVE CREDIT TO THE GIF MAKER.

Giving credit is a very common thing and also supposed to be acknowledged. GIF-making is a type of art work because it TAKES LOADS OF TIME. Gifs are MB caps and sometimes good GIF makers spend extra time fixing up colors or getting the perfect loop. I know because it takes me a long time to make most of the GIF's you guys see in my blogs.

EVEN PROFESSIONALS DO IT Destructoid gives credit http://www.destructoid.com/sup-holmes-reaches-for-the-stars-with-molly-carroll-271003.phtml

as you can see the artwork is credited to the USER/CREATOR.

Not, every GIF is meant to be credited.

No, there are many different types of GIF's out there but they are mainly broken down into 2 parts: Meme/reaction GIFs and Game/Manga aka Edit GIFs. The GIFs most of you guys use or you see in comments are obviously the first category. These GIFs are un-quality, usually are very small, and for all intents and purpose funny.

What makes them different is that no one is claiming credit for it as there is no watermark and once again it was just meant to be used.

An example would be this Antonio Banderas gif

See how it is very lossy and has no watermark? Yep that's pretty much it; in addition to having no source due to multiple sites hosting it?

Edit GIF's are the one's being misused by thieves such as DeanMartin. You didn't create the GIF yet, not only do you put multiple GIF's on your blog which CLEARLY have other users Watermarks on it, but you don't give credit and pass it off like a JPEG/PNG/screenshot is not cool. These gifs are very easy to tell considering the upgrade in quality.

Here's an example of that [note: I own the jetgrindradio tumblr username as well as previous owning ryotakise and of course troyfullbuster they all link to the one site]

Whoops!

Whoops!

This next Gif is made by Tumblr user SEPHIRONA it is clearly in the picture [and very good if I add that]

So what am I asking? Just put YOUR DAMN CREDIT ON THE ARTWORK AND GIFS YOU GET. It's not that hard, really, especially when there are USERNAMES ON THE PICTURES.

So, put a wavier or something that you didn't make the GIFs/artwork AND/OR JUST PUT THE URL SOURCE. Sometimes it may be hard to find the source considering many sites like to "relay" images from other sites. Think of the Horrible and crime of a site WEHEARTIT. They just have users copy other people's GIFs and upload; that's not the true source. Many of the GIF's stolen are from tumblr users or other sites which once again can be relayed back to their site.

If you have trouble finding artwork Google has a reverse image search to find true sources for areas like pixiv.net

Everyone loves to see their GIF's being used, it's a great feeling, but to have it non-credited or just used without permission is a total shot to the nuts.

Thanks.

Uncharted: Golden Abyss Review

$
0
0

Uncharted is arguably the biggest franchise for Sony in its wave of next generation games, so in turn to make the PS Vita sell better Sony decided to bring Uncharted to its owners and prospective buyers. Thus, Uncharted: Golden Abyss was born, it was developed not by Naughty Dog but by Sony Bend Studios, marking the first Uncharted game not created by its original studio. The game features Nathan Drake before the PS3 trilogy, as we all know and love him, in addition to changing bits of the Uncharted-style gameplay to accompany the many specs you can find and use on your Playstation Vita.

Uncharted Golden Abyss has just as good a story as the Uncharted games before it. In this adventure, you play a young Nathan Drake searching most of South America for the lost remains and the hidden whereabouts of the Spanish Conquistadors. The game starts off with you running from a bunch of hired mercenaries, hired by rival explorer Dante, and seemingly in a no-way out kind of situation, before it flashes back to how Nathan got into such a predicament. Over the course Nathan runs into old friends, like Sully, meets a female archaeologist and gets run up with a former General; as they are all searching for the Lost City of Gold. The story is good enough to keep the player wanting to see more, though doesn't quite live up to the billing as we experienced with Nathan's first games.

The gameplay is the best thing UC: Golden Abyss has and the biggest problem it has to offer. Uncharted Golden Abyss still keeps everything the same as previous Uncharted games, a 3rd-person shooter, with melee attacks, climbing ancient buildings, finding artifacts, etc. Aside from the usual Uncharted antics, is a few new bits of gameplay that are accompanied by the extensive use of the Playstation Vita's Specs. The problem with them is that they are all annoying, in the way it hinders the gameplay with its gimmicks, especially in important moments in the game. The first new implementation is the "Drake Balance" or using the Vita to fix a Nathan Drake who suddenly loses who balances in random areas. The problem is that this happens too much and in addition, if you are laying down to play the game on your handheld device, well you better pause and sit-back up straight for the 5 seconds this happens.

Gameplay is hindered by constant gimmicks

The next problem is the idea of touch screen fighting, in addition, to Uncharted's regular combat system. Fighting in Uncharted games usually responds to pressing Square and Triangle, to attack, finish, and/or dodge. In Golden Abyss, you must use the touch screen, when told by a giant arrow in which direction to swipe, during enemy dodge sequences, or cliche broken ladder sequences. What's the point of allowing the player to combat with buttons and then dodge with the touch screen? Why make the boss fights of the game, the most stressful touch-screen swipe direction fight of all-time? Fighting bosses could possibly be the worst thing in Uncharted: Golden Abyss because these swipes require a full-100% swipe through your Vita Screen.

Other new add-ons to the game is the not-usable Black Market which coincides with the random drops of enemy-AI's "bounty cards". This is useless for the game unless going for the platinum, like myself, and honestly a very annoying feature. Others is Drake's camera, a very fun, different style to the Drake's Journal Collections, where you must find scenes/areas in a game that match up with pictures displayed in Drake's Journal. By seeing the pictures, you can take out Drake's Camera, zoom in or out, and get the perfect picture of South America.

Uncharted Golden Abyss has fantastic graphics, with gorgeous scenery, and full voice acting throughout the entire game. Traversing rivers, forests, or cave-dungeons, all look on par to the first Uncharted game. The music is a fully orchestrated track and honestly, make's you feel like you are watching a Steven Spielberg movie, which is a damn good thing. Replay-value wise I would say it's on par with the Uncharted games, as Survivor mode is unlocked again, after completion of the game; so it's up to you if you want to relieve the story.

Overall

Score: 6.7/10

Uncharted Golden Abyss is a good game, but not a good Uncharted game. Small gimmicks ruin the flow of the gameplay, that not even the alright story and great musical score can save. The game is very funny and engaging though, with a great scene with Sully and Drake having a game of "that's what she said" and constantly has the player wanting to collect all artifacts or location data. If it weren't for forcing the touch-screen moments in vital parts of the game or the random drops for the platinum hunt, the game would definitely be better. Unfortunately, this is not the game to boost Vita sales, it's another good entry into a great franchise though.

Lightning Returns Final Fantasy XIII Review

$

It's finally over, the series that is filled with the worst gameplay, worst story, worst characters, and amazing music is finally over. Funny though, my hate for this series (not Final Fantasy just the XIII series) is not as bad considering Square-Enix did us a favor and made Final Fantasy XIII-2 great in all aspects, except the box-cover art; in turn my three day 1 purchases will never be justified.  Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, is the third and final installment of the XIII series, and features the return of the worst main character to garner anyone's attention, Lightning Farron. Asides the return, many changes were brought to the game, majorly focusing on the gameplay. The first major change brought is the fact you only control and play as Lightning, getting rid of parties altogether and the other main change, you will notice, is the combat play is slightly more action-rpg orientated than their first two installments, though it still is not classified as an action-rpg.

The story of LR:FFXIII takes place about 500 years the events of Final Fantasy XIII-2, with only thirteen days the world has left before it's extinction. Because after the events of FFXIII-2, where the Chaos was unleashed unto the world, time has stopped, and all the humans, who cannot age, yet are not immortal (murder and disease can still kill), now live on a set of isles in Bhunivelze called Nova Chrysalia. Lightning, who has awoken from her crystal slumber, is tasked from God/Bhunivelze, that she will be known as the savior, and will harvest and free the souls of humanity from the burdens of their heart, to lead them towards the new world that Bhunivelze will create. Helping you in your quest from the Ark, your "home-base", is a familiar face to the FFXIII series, Hope Estheim, who has been regressed to his 14-year old, first game appearance. A funny note, that Square-Enix tries to pull for Lightning's lack of emotion, is that Bhunivelze took away their emotions/feelings, however, for anyone who has played any of the XIII games, Lightning is exactly the same. Now, deemed as the savior for the world, it is up to Lightning to save the humans of a crumbling world. Throughout her journey, she will travel across lands, meeting old allies, who may have changed in the 500 years she's been away, and must help do Bhunivelze's bidding in order to save her sister, Serah Farron. However, is always doing what you're told the right thing to do, and can you always trust the gods? Lightning's quest brings you and her around a giant apology-fest to every character, where Lightning, once again, robotically tries to shoulder the blame. The game tries to implement many anime cliches, but honestly, these aren't bad things per se; it's just this voice-cast and story-team are so bad at portraying it that it's just annoying and/or boring. What trying to die, because you are running away from the pain and given up the right to live, so you get the anime one punch to the face? That's fine I've seen it many times, almost every GUNDAM, but wow does this game do it horribly.

I almost did Snow

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII decided to "overhaul" (if they want to call it that) the gameplay from its predecessors in the Final Fantasy XIII series. Instead of the new type of turn-by-turn based battle system, which had the infamous "auto-battle" feature, they decided to keep the player more integrated with the fighting. Battle Gameplay mechanics require you to play as Lightning, but as three different "forms" of Lightning, that you customize using your personal Schemata. Schemata simply is what you choose for Lightning to wear and what abilities you want her to have. By wearing clothes, like a flamed-theme dress, you get a locked ability and possibe bonus stat of a type of Fire-Spell in one slot, and the other 3 slots are for your choice of: Attack, Magic, Defend, or Status. Your set-ups are entirely up to you, if you've played FFXIII or XIII-2 you'll know what to put, if you haven't it is pretty easy to figure out what to set for most garbs. Besides main garbs. the only other parts of customizing Lightning's looks are with accessories and a non-ability item like sunglasses or a pumpkin head. After setting up your Schemata, the fights in LR:FFXIII essentially play the same, you have to stagger the enemy using magic based attacks until you can actually hurt the enemy with physical attacks. Although you can "move" around the battle field, Lightning only slowly strafes to whatever direction you hold your stick to, making it required for you to defend (or evade/counter whatever ability you equipped).\

All enemies have automatic Libra, meaning you don't need to find out the stats for the enemies after you kill them once, or fight them for a bit. While fighting, you are constantly alternating from the garbs you have; the reason this is important is because your ATB charge is now more of a refill gauge rather than a wait-it-out standby. As you switch garbs, the ATB charges for the garbs on standby at a faster rate than if you are wearing it and/or obviously doing commands which take ATB. As previously mentioned, the Stagger bar is back but this time in all new more confusing manner of frequencies. The stagger is now located on the enemy name and will show a frequency line going up and down from blue, to yellow, to red. Sometimes you will see multiple frequency waves but that is never explained in the game; however good news is some enemies require you to stagger them, multiple times! (/end sarcasm) All in all, battles require the player to be more focused and integrated with them, but in essence they are still the same boring and broken system from the previous entries with a new look.

an RPG that doesn't give EXP

Overworld Gameplay is basically an American RPG. So, if you like GTA or whatever, then you'll love LR:FFXIII design! The game has main quests, that you can fulfill at anytime, though those main/story quests only take about 5-10 hours gameplay MAX. The rest of the time you are running around as Lightning doing sidequests because this is an RPG that doesn't give EXP. If you want to make Lightning have better stats, then you have to do sidequests, such as getting a ball from a roof, finding fireworks, or killing monsters. There are tons of sidequests and they make the game does a good job making the player feel like they have to complete them all with great time management, due to the constant running clock that Lightning Returns imposes on the player. However, by the Eighth Day you will realize that you do need to waste all your EP and manage the clock well, because you will have completed everything or nearly everything and nap all your days away at an Inn. In the main world, you run around as Lightning, where you can talk to NPC's, who sometimes give items, quests, or hints on where to go. Lightning has a stamina bar so you can sprint around, though you will constantly have to recharge it; this bar also serves as your power to preemptive strike the enemies in the overworld. Striking enemies unnoticed give a 25% HP decrease vs a 10% decrease if they notice you. Monster battling is important because it serves as an important part for the most important thing in the game: EP!

EP is Lightning's special power, she can stop time, teleport, or do massive damage to enemies in a short amount of time. EP can only be recharged by rare items or by constantly killing monsters; which you are going to have to do, although there is nothing else to it but a small monetary reward. All quests are split up into 3 parts: Main Quests, Side Quests, and Canvas of Prayers. While the other two were mentioned, Canvas of Prayers Quests, are similar to the town quests found in Xenoblade Chronicles; where a sign would ask for the player to get X amount of item and it becomes magically given to them for stats. All quests are important, though some just have ludicrous stories to them. Finishing out gameplay bits are the scattered treasures and mysterious items found all over town and the ability to upgrade your abilities or weapons, however this feature is not available until AFTER you beat the game; so in turn it is pretty useless.

Graphics remain Final Fantasy XIII's strong point, though the areas in this game are not as memorable as the ones found in FFXIII and FFXIII-2. There is a lot of depth put into some of the dungeon design, however, this does not mean many of them require much thought. While music has always been Final Fantasy XIII's strongest point, Lightning Returns falters in this one, with bad and forgettable new themes or just rehashing old themes (not a bad thing) from its previous entries. Replay-value of the game is moderate, if the story wasn't so bad you can replay the game to enjoy tougher boss battles and gaining newer items or sharing your boss battle scores online!

Overall

Score: 6.0/10 [b/c of Japanese audio] English VA Score: 5.0/10

Lightning Returns is a bad game that has...or had some potential. The problem is the story, the main character (who isn't even the most important character), and just how poorly executed everything is. I enjoyed my time trying to do every sidequest, but the more I think about it the more I never want to play the game again. The entire time you play as Lightning, you have to hear her manly, robotic err monotonic voice, just constantly say the same thing or try to say something funny when it doesn't work. In addition, I got tired from hearing her apologize or here how she's missing something for the entire game; okay once is enough! The game just shows no character growth, disappoints me in the music because I love FFXIII music and is overrated in its gameplay, which people think is good. There was nothing different about pressing x and o for my magic attacks and then switching to my other garb to do that, to FINALLY STAGGER like we always did in the previous two. Why do I need to stagger to kill? Why do I need to always do the weakness to be effective?

I did have fun with impossible to beat bosses Aeronite and Ersh....something but other than that challenge it takes no skill to beat this game or customize for it.

Happy Birthday TLMB Gaming!

TLMB Gaming aka the LegendofMikeandBill Youtube Channel has just turned a whole year old! I really can't believe time flies that fast, it seems like just yesterday I waltzed into my best friend's house and was like hey man let's make a YouTube Channel and he agreed. Honestly, it's a really cool but super tiring experience and takes a lot of work, be it just making videos or rendering stuff. I laugh thinking about how much stuff has changed, how we got better, the classic "no why are we funnier off camera!" and of course the entire 8 hours it took us to just think of the name TLMB. I remember we had plenty of ideas for the name, though none of them were close to being good; but hey it was solved eventually.

This is that picture from the Mario party video lol the un-HD Phil v. HD-Me

Now, 365 Days, 180 subs, 15,000 views and plenty of laughs later we made it a whole year!

So, March 22nd, 2013 we put up our first video officially in Halo 4 Legendary Campaign: There's Two Chiefs!?  which I will spare you all by embedding that into the blog. From there on Billy and I would meet almost every Friday and figure out what to improve as well record games. Our old set up consisted of us having up to three laptops taking up space as we recorded, but later on we dumbed it down to just one. We didn't have a facecam until we fixed that up and we added thumbnails and more and more as the time went by! A big shoutout to Matt/Shumga9 who really helped us out in an artistic point of view. He gave vital information for how we set our thumbnails today and our trailer!  There have been many games played on TLMB but honestly my favorite moments have all been MMGM games such as Mario Party and Super Smash Bros. Those moments are the times I truly had fun and it was just a blast; especially having Phil and my brother Joey over for some of the most memorable clashes of all time. My favorite two videos are connected to each in Mario Party 5 Part 3 [Volleyball] and Part 4 [Ice Hockey] especially because two of our best highlights came from these two videos!

Honestly, I think I am most proud of our Official TLMB Gaming Trailer (the second trailer we created). It took our butts to make this and honestly, just watching that highlights part [there is an annotation for it] always brings a smile to my face.

this just the highlights CLICK PLAY

It'd be cool to know how you guys enjoy it and all I'll probably bug you guys about it again in a blog I forgot to put out!

Our first trailer is on there and that took mad work as well! It's a great experience to just work hard and do these things with your best friends. I'm glad I thought up the idea and was able to follow through on it! It really takes a lot of work, but the payoff and the fun it brings really makes it worth it!

I hope you guys who subbed or just watched the trailer now really enjoyed it. We all do it for not only ourselves but for everyone else, trying to share our fun with everyone we can.

Thank you guys and let's hope for another year...with 10000 more subs!!!! lol

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze (Wii U) Review

$

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, is the 5th installment of the Donkey Kong Country series and the second done by Retro Studios, following the massive hit of its 2010 Donkey Kong Country Returns. It is the first DK game in high definition, as well as the first for the Big Ape on the Nintendo Wii U. The game focuses once again on mainly its platforming levels, spanning 6 worlds with different themes. Some changes from DKCR are made to DKCTF, such that Diddy Kong is not the only character you can team up with; as Dixie Kong makes a triumphant return as well as making the legendary Cranky Kong playable for the first time ever! In addition, the blowing mechanic is gone from DKCR and the game allows you to play with either the GamePad, Wiimote [and Nunchuk], or Pro Controller.

Tropical Freeze actually has a story, like DKCR, though it obviously take a huge backseat to gameplay, not meaning as much as this element means to other games. As the Kong's are celebrating Donkey Kong's birthday, the Pointy Tucks (the enemies) and their mysterious shaded figure, notice Donkey Kong Island and intend to inhabit the home. Using a magic horn, an Ice Dragon appears and freezes all of DK Island, allowing the Pointy Tucks to invade the area, and in turn blowing Donkey Kong away. Now, with his homeland taken, it is up to Donkey Kong and his friends to get back his island!

Mentioned before the gameplay of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is a platformer, meaning you play as DK and a partner of your choosing, and you travel to the end of each level, avoiding baddies, making jumps, and of course completing each course. The first thing to notice about the gameplay is Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong, and Cranky Kong; be it you are playing co-op or single player. The Kong's are not balanced like they are in the DKC SNES series, as each now has his/her own special trademark ability, making them more of power-ups for the player's choosing. Diddy has a jetpack (though this returns from the DKCR game) to keep the player floating for a time period, Dixie has a the ability to increase the players jump (rather than her old float mechanic), and Cranky Kong is a rip from the infamous DuckTales video game, using his crane in Scrooge McDuck fashion. Overall, you will find Cranky Kong to be the most useless of the three, which is a bit of a shame because Cranky Kong is a legend among true DKC players; always remembering his rants and crapping on the player how he was so good. The next change that is more noticeable to veterans rather than newcomers, as the underwater mechanics took a full change in this game compared to the former games. The first thing is, Donkey Kong and friends can no longer breathe underwater for however long they like, instead you must use Sonic-esque bubbles to regenerate your oxygen bar so you do not die. The second thing is you can now attack underwater and "swim"; meaning your roll exists underwater as well as the Kong's help you swim faster in their unique ways.

Making a return is the collection of the KONG letters, as well as Puzzle Pieces, and the Temple Artifacts. Throughout each level their are 4 KONG letters to find, as well scattered puzzle pieces that require you to fulfill a task (like collecting all bananas in a certain area), do a special bonus game, or just find in the open! Collecting all the KONG letters in every level of the world will open up the Temple or K-Levels in DKCTF, which are suppose to represent the "hardest levels" for the player. Upon their completion, you are rewarded a Artifact and by collecting all 7 artifacts you are rewarded a secret bonus world. Though the Puzzle Pieces lead to cool things such as a in game OST and concept art, they are unfortunately hidden by tedious tasks or repetitive bonus games. The Bonus Games in past entries, though had similar goals, were always different and represented a challenge, but in this Donkey Kong every single one is the same, so they just become habit by the 3rd world. The tasks in the game for Puzzle Pieces in the game are more annoying than they are skillful, as most of the time it will be something like get all the Banana Coins in this area or destroy every enemy in the area, though it really is up to the player to know when to do this. This kind of works against the 200% people because it makes you stay longer in a level because you are constantly straining yourself to collect basically every single banana. How would you feel trying to collect every coin in a Super Mario Bros. level? While this idea works in the vehicle levels for the Barrel Rocket and Mine Cart, it doesn't work on land platforming. If the idea of this was to make the game hard, then it clearly derives from that point. Another point that derives from the game's overrated sense of difficulty from the community is the fact that you constantly have 999 Banana Coins and 99 lives; so don't worry about ever being short of lives like it's Donkey Kong Country 1-3.

If the idea of this was to make the game hard, then it clearly derives from that point

Speaking of vehicle levels, they of course make a triumphant return to the game with no major changes at all! The idea is the same, where you get two hearts, and basically have to survive. On the topic of things that return is Banana Coins and the shop. Though largely forgettable and unimportant compared to the first DKCR, where it was important to visit Cranky Kong to unlock the key to get the other level; this time Funky Kong is running the shop and has items which I really don't know what they do. I believe they are close to the Mega Man shop system we see in MegaMan 9 & 10. Mentioned just before, hidden levels, are now actually hidden as there are multiples of them in each world and require the player to really keep his eye out. Most of the time it requires you to have a partnered specific Kong with you, to find these Jak & Daxter like portals. The last bit about gameplay has to do with the return of DK's animal friends, or I should just say Rambi because none of his animal pals make a return AGAIN. Rambi plays largely the same, though it is disappointing to not see Squawk come back.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze hits a very high note in its term of replay-value, music, and graphics. Honestly, all three parts are astonishing and provide the player with gorgeous visuals with amazing levels themes composed by the legendary David Wise. Though Hard Mode provides the player a new and obviously a harder way to play the game; it is a bit disappointing in the fact that it just turns into a Diddy-fest (well Dixie for most). It would have been better for the Hard Mode to feature classic SNES rules so you can still play as the multiple Kong's except only have 1 heart, rather than just choosing one Kong for every mission.

Overall

Overall: 8.8/10

To tell you the truth the score would have been better, but everyone I've heard played the game overrated it to the extreme for me and it didn't match up any of those expectations. The music is good not great, the game is moderate not hard and honestly it's fun but short. I enjoyed my entire time with DKCTF, which spanned about 10-12 days before I hit 200%, the game is good and definitely frustrates a player. I think the best levels were the K-levels and the secret Temple World at the end, 2-K, 5-K, 6-K, and the temples are how a game should be made! When it came to hard mode I just used Diddy for everything and I did feel like I was cheating a bit, but it kind of went away because that is how this game is designed versus it's past games. Once I realized that this game was not DKC2, I moved on and enjoyed it for what it was and a damn fine game at that.

The best thing about my two week adventure with DK was beating that hidden level and putting it up on the Miiverse and getting some kid to say "You are a gaming god"

I know.

This game is just absolute foolery...actually it's an April Fool's Joke to call this thing a game. It's no OctoDad though it is on the same level, however this game is just ridiculously broken and that's what makes it great. Also, it puts the points system to sham because I don't even know.

Just click the annotations to see how broken this game is lol
